Girls’ Generation “Trick”

The Boys

The Queens of K-Pop put out their 3rd full-length album last week…and it’s just as medium as the first two.  That’s the major drawback to being a Girls’ Generation fan—they’re so rooted in lightweight pop that they can swing wildly from dazzling, dance-based, top-notch tracks to schlocky, barely-listenable, uber-cheesy, almost-cartoonish filler.  And it’s hard to pull of a ballad when your group really doesn’t have any vocal standouts.  If they’d broaden their focus and embrace more elements of R&B they could probably put out more consistent albums the way Super Junior and SHINee do.

All that said, this song is ridiculously catchy.  It pretty much stomps all over “The Boys” and I can already tell this will be the next single.  I’m choreographing it in my head as we speak.  It’s got that kind of Gay White Boy Chorus that Britney Spears is so good at, the kind that makes all the gays put their arms above their head and make the Duckface.

So obviously that’s a hit.

I’m down with that. (except the Duckface of course)
