Flashback Friday: Father MC “I’ll Do 4 You” (with Mary J. Blige)

This video is amazing.  Don’t front.

I actually miss “happy” rap songs that don’t make me feel like I just set women back 100 years.  And why don’t rappers dance anymore?  What was wrong with that?  Combine that with homegirl on the keytar, stiff models pretending to be backup singers, and Mary J. Blige being young and green and awkward as hell, and you got yourself a classic.

Mary was 19 when Andre Harrell signed her to Uptown and she spent the first few years singing backup for artists like Father MC.  All that was over once Andre handed the reigns to Sean “Puffy” Combs and a star was born.

But, just in case you didn’t know, Mary J. Blige was once just the Hook Girl.
