So let's talk about _____ .
The more science discovers, the less Conservatives believe it.

Can we just say that Conservative is a synonym for stupid now?  Because it is.  I know all the kids like to say “that’s gay” when something is dumb or whack or whatever, but “that’s Conservative” makes way more sense.

So, mom said I could go see a movie at 10, but my curfew is at 11.  What, does she want me to leave in the middle?  That’s Conservative.

Who even puts a table right next to the bathroom in a restaurant?  Nobody wants to sit there.  That is SO Conservative.

Wait, so they’re bringing Jersey Shore back for another season?  With pregnant Snooki?  WTF, that is HELLA Conservative.

We all know that that right wing Americans regularly disregard science in favor of politics. Global warming and evolution simply can’t exist, they say, because they’re not simply the creations of eggheads in “liberal” academia, but they also go against the conservative bloc’s religious beliefs. They’ve said for years that science is just hogwash, and now that distrust is at an all time high.

According to University of North Carolina sociology professor Gordon Gauchat, only 35% of self-identified conservatives say they have “a great deal of trust” in science. That’s a 28% decline since the first survey in 1974. (cont.)

We are literally going backwards in this country.  Scientific evidence is IN your face.  But you choose not to “believe” it.  Can I just choose not to believe it’s sunny because there’s a high pressure system and say “God made the sun shine on my area, that’s why it’s sunny?”  Can I just choose not to believe an earthquake happened because of stress on tectonic plates and say “God shook the devil out of some sinners?”

What I’m saying is, if you CHOOSE—yes choose—to believe in some invisible cloud person, you need to find a way to make your BELIEF fit in with the FACTS.  Not the other way around.  If you want to say God made the high pressure system or God made the way in which Earth’s plates interact with each other, OK.  I will leave you alone on that.  But you can’t just throw your hands up and say “God did it!  No explanation necessary” whenever there’s something complicated to explain.

You know what I think?  I think that for a long time, our educational system was on and poppin and everybody was getting smart and making sense.  And then we fell off.  We stopped caring about math and stopped caring about science and stopped striving to be the smartest country because we were the richest and most powerful.  We got Complacent and Lazy.  And now we’re starting to get some of those kids brought up on Complacent and Lazy turning into adults who can vote and participate and shape laws.

We need to get smart again.  For us to just sit around and let the world pass us by is truly whack.  That is so Conservative.
