Hurricane Sandy is bringing out the racists!
About.

I live in a constant state of early 90s.
When college rock was good.
And black people were still on TV.

So let's talk about _____ .
     Hurricane Sandy is bringing out the racists!

So this is kind of fun.

Ketan and I are taking various breaks from our hurricane snacks to play on Facebook, catch up on R&B Divas on TVOne.com, and get up-to-date hurricane footage.  See, without the news, I wouldn’t know what was going on with the hurricane.  I couldn’t possibly get this information from looking out of the window at all of the trees doing the Shoulda Lean right now.

Oh but look what happened in my friend’s neighborhood in Brooklyn!

And people say NYC has no trees.  What do you call that thing on the sidewalk, huh?

But anyway, back to the SERIOUS RACISM!

I was reading some coverage on CBS containing interviews with various people and I came across this gem.

In New Jersey, Denise Faulkner and her boyfriend showed up at the Atlantic City Convention Center with her 7-month-old daughter and two sons, ages 3 and 12, thinking there was a shelter there. She was dismayed to learn that it was just a gathering point for buses to somewhere else. Last year, they were out of their home for two days because of Hurricane Irene.

“I’m real overwhelmed,” she said as baby Zahiriah, wrapped in a pink blanket with embroidered elephants, slept in a car seat. “We’re at it again. Last year we had to do it. This year we have to do it. And you have to be around all sorts of people — strangers. It’s a bit much.”

::chuckles::

You thought it was gonna be white people foolishness didn’t you?  Her baby is named Zahiriah.  That is not a New Jersey White Lady Stay-At-Home Mom kind of name, so these people are clearly colored folks.  I wish there was video accompaniment because I just know Ms. Faulkner’s eyes were all kinds of wide and incredulous as she said all sorts of people — strangers.  I guess she hadn’t planned to spend the hurricane penned up with The Schmidts — Chad & Becky and their children Thad, Kristy, & John-Christopher.

Obviously I’m just kidding.  We all know only white people can be racist.  Ms. Faulkner is probably just upset about sharing her air with poor people.
