I live in a constant state of early 90s.
When college rock was good, and black people were still on TV.

Vatican shielding Archbishop Wesołowski from child abuse extradition.

The Pope has gotten some really good press for making common sense statements about the wealthy, atheists, and other hot button issues, but let’s scale back on the praise for a second because the Vatican is still shady.  In a move that surprises absolutely no one who pays the tiniest bit of attention to Catholic child abuse scandals, the Vatican has refused to allow the Poland to extradite Archbishop and former Papal Nuncio Józef Wesołowski for child abuse charges.

Pope Francis needs to stop talking to atheists and just hush.

Last week, Pope Francis responded to an open letter by an atheist inquiring into the nature of God’s forgiveness toward non-believers:

Given that — and this is the key point — God’s mercy has no limits, if you go to him with a sincere and repentant heart, the issue for those who do not believe in God is to obey their conscience.

Every time this current Pope opens his mouth with something halfway positive to say, the whole world jumps on it like the Church is turning over a new leaf and this is the best thing that ever happened.  Am I the only one paying attention?  Because from a religious standpoint, this man isn’t even making sense anymore.

Don’t get too excited by the Pope’s gay-friendly words.

I like Pope Francis.  I think he is the kind of hardcore Catholic who actually has common sense and decency and a genuine love for all kinds of people.  We could probably hang out and watch Touched By an Angel.  Or 7th Heaven.  I’m not sure what else the Pope can watch but those seem like good starting points.

Still, the Vatican already told the world months ago that nothing the Pope says really matters and I guarantee you the rest of those stodgy old men hate us as much as they always did.

Child molesters shouldn’t go to jail for a first offense.

An actual New York friar says we should have sympathy for child molesters because the children seduced them.  Y’all.  I read this article and halfway through I was like “The Onion is usually funnier than this.”  I thought this *had* to be satire, but Father Benedict Groeschel actually said this.  And more.  This just takes “blaming the victim” to a whole new level of ridiculous.

This man is clearly a child molester.

You can try to convince me otherwise, but you’re gonna be hard pressed to make me believe that any normal man with no pedophile tendencies would actually accuse 12 year old boys of seducing grown men.

Today in Men of God: Molester Priest has legal fees paid for by the church.

He didn’t even ask.  The archdiocese was just like “here’s a loan to fight these charges, even though you were caught in your underwear chasing a little boy down the street.”  Just another day in the Catholic church really.  Totally normal.

How to handle accusations of paying thousands of dollars to child molestors.

Let’s have a little lesson in How To Be A Grown-Up.

If you are a high-ranking priest who has been accused of paying child molestors under your jurisdiction $20,000 to leave the priesthood, how should you react?

A) Deny all charges in a morally indignant, totally incredulous sort of way.
B) Own up to the charges and explain the reasons behind your trangressions.
C) Be a big fat crybaby and whine about how superflous the New York Times has become and refuse to address the charges.

Timothy Dolan chose Door Number Three.

This priest knocked up some girl and now everybody knows about it.

An investigation into his (shady) order just exposed Father Thomas Williams for getting one of his followers pregnant.

He cute though.

Fr. Williams is one of those I’m So Important priests who goes on TV all the time and writes books.  Lots of books.  Lemme tell you what they’re about.  Because clearly I have read them all and I’m not making any of this up.

original title: A Hard-On Like This
In this coming of age story, a young man enters the priesthood at a very young age and realizes, too late, that he has an awesome dick.  He prays to Jesus about not hiding his light under a bushel and ultimately decides to give sermons naked.  And bless the congregation with his seed.

If you get pregnant by your priest, that is *your* fault, not his.

So don’t tell anybody because A) You need to make it right with the Lord, B) The congregation will be upset and C) If the court says he has to pay child support, he’ll have to leave the church.  Clearly, you need to give that baby up for adoption and never speak about it again.

That’s what I have learned so far from an upcoming Dan Rather Reports on HDNet about coerced adoptions.
