The Top 40 Girl Group Videos Of All Time

In honor of Danity Kane’s reunion (praise!!!!) I’ve been having major girl group cravings. It’s impossible to really rank the greats. The Supremes didn’t really make videos but how can you not have the prototype for girl trios to come? Does it count as a girl group if they play instruments, like the Bangles? Does Destiny’s Child’s choreography put them a step ahead of The Saturdays, who don’t dance?

But, here it is anyway. My favorite girl group videos. I threw this together really quick, so who did I miss? Let me know. Maybe there’ll be a part two.

Flashback Friday: Shades “Tell Me (I’ll Be Around)”

I never realized how much one of these girls looked like Beyonce. Shades is basically what Destiny’s Child would’ve looked like if they had debuted at 23 instead of 16.

The original by Bernard Wright is still everything, but this feels more like summertime.

LeToya “Regret” ft. Ludacris

It’s LeToya Luckett’s birthday, so please appreciate this straight-forwardly pleasant, regular-ass R&B as opposed to all that Bey Dramaticism.

Also: Can we petition for a Destiny’s Child reunion? Clearly, Beyonce is not here for that, but I would be down for LeToya, LaTavia, Kelly, & Michelle. With no lead singer, it’d be more like EnVogue and less like the Supremes. Somebody get on that.

Farrah Franklin got kicked outta Destiny’s Child because she was too much lite-skinneded competition for Beyonce.

Kicked out for missing appearances? Please. You really think that girl got invited to join the preeminent young girl group on the scene and just decided not to do her job? She woulda hobbled on stage with ebola. Those Knowleses are not pulling the wool over these eyes, even if it is 10 years late. Trynna slick a can of oil, who you think you foolin?

Michelle is the weak link in Destiny’s Child. We already knew that. Let’s move on.

So maybe Michelle wasn’t as ready for the Super Bowl as Kelly was, but maybe that’s because she has an actual job performing every night in Fela! as opposed to Kelly who is basically just The Hook Girl on singles nobody hears on the radio.

I like reading funnily awful things about Michelle as much as the next person, but Keyshia Cole can have all the seats in the Superdome for this.
