Of course last week was all about Brandy, even if Two Eleven is slightly disappointing. I mean, it’s *good* but I guess I keep hoping for another Afrodisiac. Plus, I was so exciting to have a non-bootleg version of “Silent Night” and she didn’t even put it on the album! I hope it turns up as a B-side or something, because it’s better than about 40% of the songs she chose.
Also of note: I still listen to 702 and you should as well.
25. Raphael Saadiq “Day Dreams”
Mr. Saadiq gets peppy and optimistic on this 1930s juke joint jive.
24. LIGHTS “Siberia”
The title track to LIGHTS’ second album is a bubbly slice of electropop that manages to be both relaxing and danceable.
23. Vince Gill “True Love” feat. Amy Grant
Country’s master songsmith manages to make a love song with his wife touching and understated without going into maudlin territory.
22. The Bats “Simpletons”
The Bats sound as jangly and as 1991-college-radio as ever on this track from their eighth album (in twenty-five years).
21. Big K.R.I.T. “Another Naieve Individual Glorifying Greed and Encouraging Racism”
Southern rap’s mixtape king gets socially conscious on the closing track to his finest effort.

Linkin Park…LeAnn Rimes…Foo Fighters…NSYNC…I guess I thought it was 2001 last week.
And here are my top 10 albums of 2011. I checked around, and only a couple of them made any official top ten lists…but all those rankings are boo-zhee anyway and this is what you really should be listening to. (Not really…this is just what I like…)

I had this revelation while listening to Emmylou Harris that I really want her to do a song with T.I. Seeing Dolly Parton next to Lil Wayne reminded me that I want that to happen. I think they’d be real cute. And T.I. did perform at Taylor Swift’s concert so it’s not totally outside of the realm of possibility. I wonder how Emmylou feels about rap music…
