Natural Hair Nazis
It’s that time of year again, time to give a collective eyeroll to the whole elitist natural hair movement. Look what I got in my inbox.

Thank you, Sista Scalp Treatment, but you do not know me.

FAQ
Between Jada Pinkett-Smith and those two dads on the subway, I’ve picked up a few hundred new followers, subscribers, and friends on various social networks. I’ve been meaning to do a Frequently Asked Questions post because I get a lot of the same messages in my inbox (and I never answer them — I’m so sorry).
So here goes.

Angie Stone is like, “oh you know, just sitting around being super fabulous with a relaxer and a natural all at the same time.”
She’s still flawless. And she’s on the next season of R&B Divas. I hope she’s insane. I’m pretty sure she’s the reason D’Angelo went crazy and got fat. You don’t just do that over some Normal Woman.

This is Miss Jones. We never see each other because she lives in Brooklyn and I cannot stress to you how, even living in the same city, some places are just so far.
But last night, I was out on a date in the East Village, and my dude goes “That black girl has a nice body.” I turned around to look, and it was Miss Jones herself, on the corner with her man and a lesbian I didn’t know, looking extra fly and better than everyone around us.
(So of course we had a loud black people moment and started screaming in the intersection.)

BHM Day Twenty-Seven: Viola Davis’ Hair
(Previously in black history.)

I stopped blogging for a week because I was swamped with life, so I couldn’t follow through on my black history month posts. Hair is a topic I wanted to address at some point, and after reading negative reactions to Viola Davis’ hair at the Oscars, I figured this was appropriate.
A (white) friend of mine posted this on Facebook last night:

I seriously doubt they meant any malice. I think this is a prime example of the fact that white people never have to think about race or why things are the way they are. They can just exist. For people of color, race is everywhere. Even in something as seemingly insignificant as a glib comment about a weave.
