Political Smackdown! Maryland vs. South Carolina

image

Maryland’s Democratic Governor Martin O’Malley (no relation to Mega Agro Crag supervisor Mike O’Malley) just let everyone know that he is not here for SC Gov. Nikki Haley.

He actually used the phrase “bless her heart.” (!!!!!!!)

Ugh. Nikki Haley appointed Tim Scott to the Senate.

Nikki!  You just want for me to hate you.  You had a chance to do ONE good thing for yourself and your state, but you threw it away.  Stephen Colbert could’ve brought a measure of cool to South Carolina, the levels of which we haven’t seen since the first time Myrtle Beach’s own Vanna White stepped on the Wheel of Fortune stage dripping with sequins and getting paid ungodly amounts of money for walking and clapping.

Nikki Haley just won’t let Stephen Colbert be great.

There’s a Senate seat open in my homestate!  Jim DeMint, that Tea Party nutjob who acts like he has a direct line to Jesus through Boost Mobile, is leaving his post as US Senator from South Carolina to take leadership over some consortium of obnoxious conservatives called The Heritage foundation.  Stephen Colbert is from Charleston, but most importantly, Stephen Colbert has an actual brain that works, with neurons and such that connect to his mouth that let his wonderful ideas and observations enter the world and into the minds of other people.  (Already a step up from the majority of South Carolina’s politicians)

In terms of popularity, he’s first on the list to replace DeMint.  But Governor Haley put the kibosh on that because he doesn’t know the state drink is milk.

Immigration laws are *obviously* not about racism.

(Note my Sarcasm Asterisks)

South Carolina is on my mind recently because I A) Just got my new license in the mail and it is ridiculously ugly and B) Because South Carolina is a bad place and they just STAY bein in the news for some ridiculousness.  Now they mad about illegal immigrants and Obama is about to put the kibosh on that.

The Obama administration is taking South Carolina to federal court over an immigration bill the state passed in June.

The South Carolina bill is the latest attempt by a state to take on immigration reform directly. Supporters of the South Carolina law say the Obama administration is not doing enough to enforce immigration law and keep undocumented immigrants from entering the US illegally.

“This state can no longer afford those who don’t come here the right way and we are now going to do something about it,” said South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (R) in a statement released the day of the bill signing. (cont.)

Really, Nikki Haley?  Sit down, ma’am.  All the way in the back.

Something about Nikki Haley is just…obnoxious.

First, a moment to give Nikki props:

  • youngest governor in the country
  • first woman elected governor in South Carolina
  • first non-white candidate elected governor in South Carolina
  • only the second Indian-American governor (after Louisiana’s Bobby Jindal)

Nikki

I’m impressed, not only by her, but with South Carolina.  I mean…it’s kind of a HORRIBLE PLACE as a whole and they elected an Asian woman to office?  And, more importantly, an Sikh who converted to Christianity after marriage.  I’m tempted to say everybody forgot to vote.  I just cannot see Big Bubba and all his good ole boys letting that happen.

But she is just…SO MUCH to me.  I always want to hand her a permanent Sit Down Ma’am card.  And now she’s writing a memoir?  Really?  You have time for that?

SC is 6th in unemployment.  Near the bottom of education.  Facing a budget deficit of close to a BILLION dollars.  But you want to write a book about growing up the child of Punjabi immigrants.

I mean…THAT IS FINE AND EVERYTHING, but right now??  You can’t wait a few years when you’re NOT trying to keep a whole state afloat?

Sit down, Nikki.
