These are the last pictures I took of my mom.

This is supercute, guys.  I just cheered myself up.

A couple of years ago, I was visiting my parents in SC over the holidays.  I think I stayed for 5 or 6 weeks.  I was just over the snow in NYC and I wanted to escape somewhere warmer.  Well, Mother Nature gave me a royal F-U and dumped buckets and buckets of snow on SC while I was visiting.  It rarely snows down there, so my parents wanted to go outside and play.  I, on the other hand, had seen enough snow that winter, so I stayed in the house in my robe.  I took pics of them though!  You can’t really see them that well, but it still makes me laugh.

Me & My Mom & Food.

It’s been a little over 7 months since I lost my Ma.  Last night, I ate half a pan of brownies and finished watching season 2 of Knots Landing because something reminded me of her the day before Mother’s Day and I had a fit.  This week has been rough, so I decided to treat myself and make brownies.  While I was stirring the batter, I realized I hold my face the same way my mom used to whenever she made cakes.

I was really into pro wrestling when I was little.

Ric Flair was a huge deal where I grew up because he was from Charlotte.  Even though he was about eight thousand years old, we were still legally obligated to pull for him whenever there was a match.

But I secretly liked Shawn Michaels.

Rambling Wednesdays: We’ve pretty much decided spanking is deplorable, right?

Or is there still debate?  Are you automatically a horribly abusive barbarian if you’re not anti-corporal punishment?  Because I still plan on spanking my kids…mostly because I got spanked and I came out a-mah-zing.  (Just trying to throw out Happy Endings references whenever I can since they are forever trying to cancel the best show on television.)

Heard on the Subway: Talking about your gay son.

I was on my way to work, zoned out listening to some old school Shania Twain to get my life right, when two construction worker types got on the train at Penn Station.  They were both middle-aged white guys with Long Island accents, mustaches, dirty jeans — the type of guys you’d expect to see on a building site.  I caught a piece of their conversation when the music died before the song changed, and I decided to record them.

Kansas sperm donor ordered to pay child support.

I don’t mean sperm donor in that Maury NotTheFather Show way, where the angry lady screaming obscenities says, “He ain’t nothin but a sperm donor!”  I mean in the traditional, two lesbians want to get pregnant and used some strange man’s sperm in a turkey baster way.

A Kansas man who donated sperm to a lesbian couple after answering an online ad is fighting the state’s efforts to suddenly force him to pay child support for the now 3-year-old girl, arguing that he and the women signed an agreement waiving all of his parental rights.

The case hinges on the fact that no doctors were used for the artificial insemination. The state argues that because William Marotta didn’t work through a clinic or doctor, as required by state law, he can be held responsible for about $6,000 that the child’s biological mother received through public assistance — as well as future child support.

This stinks.  And it reeks of bureaucracy.
