Flashback Friday:  Babyface “There She Goes” feat. Pharrell

One of the guys in the office was jamming to this last week and it’s pretty much been on constant repeat.  Remember in 2001 when every video basically looked like this?  I wouldn’t mind doing that again.

I also wouldn’t mind Babyface having another actual hit.  And Pharrell doing something other than being photographed at things for being Fine & Fashionable @ Forty.

Flashback Friday: Shades “Tell Me (I’ll Be Around)”

I never realized how much one of these girls looked like Beyonce.  Shades is basically what Destiny’s Child would’ve looked like if they had debuted at 23 instead of 16.

The original by Bernard Wright is still everything, but this feels more like summertime.

Oh how novel, a pop/R&B video of a pretty girl who can actually sing and keep her clothes on at the same time.  NOVEL CONCEPT!  Somebody needs to try that again.

Flashback Friday: Tevin Campbell “Can We Talk?”

It is literally freezing in South Carolina right now.  I just went to have lunch and had to scrape ice off the windshield.  Really?  It’s supposed to be warmer down here!

So I’m bout to listen to some quiet storm, read Bebe Moore Campbell in the bathtub and pretend the weather isn’t intentionally trying to get on my nerves.

Flashback Friday: After 7 “Ready or Not”

I’m not always in the mood to listen to After 7 every time it’s cloudy, but I never want to listen to After 7 when it’s nice outside.  Their name is After 7 though so maybe they were making music for dusk and other low-light situations.  In any case, those Edmonds brothers could sing and I never understood how Babyface became famous over those two anyway (I don’t really know what to say about that third wheel in the back though…did he ever do anything?).

Sidenote:  Early 90s videos by male groups and solo artists are always distressing because the men are usually brown-skinned and the women are light-bright-almost-white, looking like Lisa Bonet.  Every single time.  :-/

So just watch with your eyes closed.
