Heard on the Subway: Talking about your gay son.

I was on my way to work, zoned out listening to some old school Shania Twain to get my life right, when two construction worker types got on the train at Penn Station. They were both middle-aged white guys with Long Island accents, mustaches, dirty jeans — the type of guys you’d expect to see on a building site. I caught a piece of their conversation when the music died before the song changed, and I decided to record them.

How I feel about March so far.

Nobody who works at Subway in NYC has ever eaten a sandwich in real life.

I am convinced of this because I have been trying for the past three months to get a sub that isn’t stacked like an asshole and I have failed every. single. time.

This one time I really wanted to punch an old black lady dead in the face.

So this woman got on the subway to preach today.

Lucky me! I love that!

Some old people really need to get hit though, messing up my whole day like that.

The subway has all of the worst people on it.

I might be one of those people because I got into two arguments on the train this weekend. It wasn’t even the same train ride, so I can’t say I was just in a bad mood that day. It’s just really cold and I’m cranky and I don’t have time to deal with rude folks and their attitudes right now.

This woman pushed a man in front of a subway train because of 9/11.

America is really doing the most this week.

A woman who told police she shoved a man to his death off a subway platform into the path of a train because she has hated Muslims since Sept. 11 and thought he was one was charged Saturday with murder as a hate crime, prosecutors said.

This white man on the train would not stop putting his foot in his mouth.

For anyone who doesn’t understand me when I say all people who say shitty things aren’t inherently awful people, I present for your consideration, Exhibit A: The Friendly White Man Who Learned Something About Non-White People So Now He Knows Everything.

From up here, it really looks like a non-event, but the East River was REALLY showing its whole ass last night! It definitely reminds you that NYC is just piled on a few tiny islands in a natural harbor with water all around.
