I live in a constant state of early 90s.
When college rock was good, and black people were still on TV.

Virginia ruling opens the door for gay marriage in the Deep South.

Call your meemaws and your pawpaws.  The queers are gettin hitched down in Dixie.  The US Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit ruled Virginia’s ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional.  The 4th Circuit also includes West Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, all of which have bans against same-sex marriage as well, so this ruling sets a powerful precedent for upcoming court appearances.

Still awaiting comment from Honey Boo Boo and Uncle Poodle and how they feel about Georgia possibly being next.

How many ways is Eric Cantor completely shamefaced right now?

::in my breathiest Toni Braxton voice::

How……ma….ny ways…..you look….a fooooooool?
Let me count the waaaays….

This is the first time a House Majority leader has lost a reelection since 1899.  Nevermind the fact that the dude who beat Cantor is an economics professor who doesn’t even understand productivity and the minimum wage.  I am so second-hand embarrassed today.  This is worse than watching American Idol auditions, but I can’t change the channel.

VA GOP bribed a Senate Democrat to block healthcare for poor voters.

This is the nastiest piece of politics I’ve seen in awhile.  Not that things like this don’t happen, but usually we never find out about it.  Sen. Phillip P. Puckett (D) was promised a plum position with Virginia’s tobacco commission in exchange for stepping down from the Senate, which would give Republicans a majority in that chamber.  The House already belongs to Republicans in Virginia and they want to block Medicare expansions under Obamacare.  With Pucket stepping down, the Senate’s vote would also lean Republican and thousands of poor Virginians would be without healthcare.

Republican or Democrat, we can all agree that politics is nasty and politicians are scum.  And Puckett is spineless.

Republican Congress hopeful doesn’t believe in the validity of marital rape.

image

Dick Black is a state Senator from Virginia who is now running for US Congress.  Naturally, his record in the Virginia House of Delegates is under scrutiny as well as his previous statements on various issues.  So how does Dick Black feel about marital rape?

I do not know how on earth you could validly get a conviction of a husband-wife rape, when they’re living together, sleeping in the same bed, she’s in a nightie, and so forth, there’s no injury, there’s no separation or anything.

Worse, this wasn’t a hidden camera that caught him pondering social issues among friends.  That’s a direct quote from a speech he made while in office.

Sen. Rand Paul copied the Gattaca Wikipedia page to make a speech.

If your party’s candidate is losing at the polls, and you bring in an out-of-state whackjob to fire up the extremists, you might be a Republican.

If Gattaca is your supporting argument for why your party should be elected over the opposition, you might be a Republican.

If you can’t even write a speech, but instead must copy a Wikipedia page word-for-word, you might be a Republican.

Gattaca though….of all the movies, Rand Paul chose to plagiarize the Gattaca Wikipedia page.  I guess he thought since only seventeen people saw that movie twenty years ago, no one would notice, but Rachel Maddow got your number boo-boo!  Caught!

Virginia Dems lose court battle to reverse purge of 40,000 voters.

Virginia and New Jersey are two states who have off-cycle elections and they will be electing governors in a few weeks.  In Virginia, Republican-controlled voting authorities removed nearly 40,000 voters from the registration lists in an effort to reduce voter fraud (which is, let me remind you, not a problem anywhere in this country).  The Democratic party took the issue to court with a lawsuit which includes Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli who is running for governor in this election.  The court ruled in favor of the Republican party on the grounds that the purge was perfectly legal.

So, why do I have such a bad taste in my mouth?  Oh right, because the Repugnantblican establishment is still Shady Susan and so is this voter fraud issue.

Today’s awful gun story: police sergeant cleared in “justifiable homicide” of 83-year-old woman.

Why?  Because she had a gun and she wouldn’t put it down.  Ergo, if Delma Towler hadn’t owned a gun, she would still be alive right now.

image

Let us not forget though, guns don’t kill people; people kill people.  In this case, cops kill people — really old people — who have guns.  But every household should own a gun, right gun lobbyists?
