About.

I live in a constant state of early 90s.
When college rock was good.

Flashback Friday: MC Lyte “Keep On, Keepin’ On” feat. XSCAPE

This video came on the other day and for a split second I forgot what this song was and thought Regina Grier had released a single back in the day.

But then I recovered and remembered every word.

     Look at this photo.
I have all kinds of problems with Kandi’s voice.  I love her—she’s really the only one left to love on RHOA—but she sounds very Moo Cow Goat Moan sometimes.  That said, homegirl can write a song and her last album was really overlooked.
Plus, Xscape is always necessary.

Flashback Friday: Mariah Carey “Always Be My Baby” Remix feat. Xscape & Da Brat

This is one of my favorite remixes of all time.  ”Always Be My Baby” is already an amazing pop song (even though, if you really listen to the lyrics, it’s kinda stalkerish), but Jermaine turned it into some smooth R&B right here.

Flashback Friday: Xscape “Love on My Mind”

Can we go back to 1994 when girl groups really SANG and kept their clothes on?   This is one of Xscape’s lesser-known songs from their debut album, but it’s one of my favorites.  And check out early footage of Lil Jon at 0:30 when he was just a scrub bouncing around SoSoDef Records in Atlanta.

They broke up after 3 albums and now sisters Tamika and Latocha are doing small work here and there singing backup, appearing in stage plays, and making mixtapes.  Tiny had two kids, married T.I. and landed a reality show on BET while we all know Kandi is holding it down as The Only Chick With Money on Real Housewives of Atlanta.

From what I hear, they never really had any beef, so maybe we’ll get a reunion when they get old and rusty…
