Hot Takes: Dora and the Lost City of Gold

Isabela Moner is a STAR! I saw her in Sicario playing the pampered Mexican princess of a drug lord, and she was so feisty and mature. Now she’s playing a bright-eyed, innocent jungle fairy, and she’s so convincing on either end of the spectrum.

It’s funny! For the target audience. Which is not 30-year-old sober people. I did laugh (out loud and hard) when she spoke to the camera the first time. The writers did a good job with that.

I fell asleep in the middle. It was like Indiana Jones for Tots and I just didn’t care about the jungle challenges or whatever. I would’ve been way more invested in this movie if it had all taken place in the city with her navigating the challenges of high school, while incorporating her skills from having grown up in a jungle.

I woke up just before Q’orianka Kilcher appeared on screen looking STUNNING as usual. And I just found out she’s Jewel’s cousin. So that was fun.

The end. That’s literally all I have to say about it.
