Scarlett Johansson: I believe Woody Allen

Look who can finally add “President of the Woody Allen Fanclub” to their illustrious resume.

I hate to drag a woman of color but Scarlett Johansson really just does not want a career anymore does she. Three huge projects coming out, lots of cast & crew hoping for a successful turnout, and she decides to stan Woody Allen in an interview:

“I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work with him anytime. I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it. I have been very direct with him, and he’s very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him.”

Scarlett Johansson to The Hollywood Reporter

She says she can play Asian, trans, or a tree, but I guess Woman Who Doesn’t Go To Bat For Woody Allen is a reach too far for her acting repertoire. 🤷‍♂️

Here’s what bugs me the most, past Scarlett’s endless litany of problematic white woman moments: Woody Allen doesn’t exactly NEED public support. He’s a rich white man who has not been run out of his career. Being this bold for no reason is so disrespectful to everyone she works with.

If the sound person wants to be controversial, fine. If the makeup person wants to have bold, public opinions, fine. They can’t tank a movie made by hundreds of people. ScarJo is the face of these projects whose success or failure affects careers less secure than hers. If Woody Allen is your friend and you believe him, fine. But he ain’t on trial, he ain’t going to jail, and he ain’t floating around a petition to get public support.

Scarlett Johansson could’ve kept that opinion to herself out of respect for the careers of everyone else she works with. You *could* take the time out of your day to publicly support an abuser…
